CALLAHAN AND CORSARO MOTORSPORTS LEAD SPEARS SRL SOUTHWEST TOUR SERIES ROOKIE-OF-THE-YEAR CHASE

BAKERSFIELD, California — As the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series moves past the mid-point of the season, Kevin Callahan has positioned himself with a big lead in the Victory Circle Chassis Rookie-of-the-Year standings. Callahan holds the Rookie-of-the-Year points lead over Scott Sanchez, 218 to 100. Callahan also sits fourth in the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series championship standings, just three points behind defending series champion Jim Pettit II who is currently third in the 2009 championship.

“We’ve had a really good year so far…we finished second at both Madera and Irwindale and had a good run going at Stockton until we experienced brake failure, so we’ve been really happy with our performance the last three races.” stated Callahan, the driver of the Guimarra Vineyards, Grape King, Bedrosians Tile, Delfino Homes, Dobitz Construction, Bertolucci Construction Ford. Callahan is a former go-kart racer from Bakersfield who moved up to Late Models where he ran two races at his hometown track of Mesa Marin Raceway before its closing. He then traveled to Toyota Speedway at Irwindale for three Late Model seasons before graduating to the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series.

“Bob Corsaro has given us this awesome opportunity to drive his SRL car and I can’t thank him enough,” Callahan said of his team owner Bob Corsaro. “We’ve built a great team of guys around Bob’s equipment and our results have been much better than we expected in our rookie year.”

Bob Corsaro has been a team owner in many racing series over the past twenty years, starting in 1989 when he partnered with Antonio Ferrari as the team owners in the CART Indy Car Series with driver Scott Atchison. Corsaro went on to field teams in the IMSA GTP Series with drivers Wayne Taylor and Atchison. He later moved to NASCAR competition where he fielded teams in NASCAR Southwest Tour Series and NASCAR Super Late Models. Today, Corsaro fields teams for Callahan in the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series and a part-time schedule for Travis Bennett in the NASCAR Camping World Series West.

Callahan and the Corsaro Motorsports Team will be in action at Madera Speedway on Saturday, September 5th for the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series “Performance Electrical 130”.
