ELMA, Washington — Do you like bowling? Do you also like looking at pretty race cars? On Saturday, September 5th you can go do both at the same time. Elma Lanes is getting in on the excitement for the inaugural Grays Harbor Non-Wing Challenge as some wingless sprint cars from the IXL Metal Conditioner NorthWest Wingless Tour will be on display in front of the bowling alley.

The cars of Dylan Olsen, Joe Bosso Jr. and current NWWT points leader Kyle Miller are scheduled to be on display in front of Elma Lanes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the day of the inaugural Grays Harbor Non-Wing Challenge, taking place at Grays Harbor Raceway later that evening. Elma Lanes is only about a mile west down the street from the Grays Harbor County Fairgrounds, where the track is located.

Elma Lanes has been a long time supporter of racing at Grays Harbor Raceway, sponsoring many local sprint car and midget racers. With the high anticipation for the inaugural Grays Harbor Non-Wing Challenge, Elma Lanes is getting in on the excitement and has invited the NWWT to put its cars on display. Elma Lanes will also award some contingency for the NWWT at the track as well.

Raw sprint car rookie Dylan Olsen, an 18-year-old out of Kelso, will probably have the shortest tow to Elma out of all the regulars on the IXL Metal Conditioner NorthWest Wingless Tour, which is based in Oregon. He also happens to have what many consider the prettiest car in the NWWT. His No. 7 Chevy-powered TCR, a true non-wing chassis, is a bright, hard-to-miss neon orange.

Olsen is also one of the top rookies in the IXL Metal Conditioner NorthWest Wingless Tour this year, having many top ten finishes and currently sitting in the Top 10 in the point standings, in addition to being well liked by the rest of the drivers in the NWWT. Olsen scored his first career sprint car win earlier this summer in non-NWWT competition with a win at Sunset Speedway Park in Banks, Oregon.

Joe Bosso Jr. has done a little winged racing in his career, but has long been a non-wing regular. The driver from the Portland suburb of Troutdale has been eager to get his non-wing car on the track at Grays Harbor Raceway and will have his No. 69 S&J powered Gambler on display at Elma Lanes as well. Bosso’s Gambler frame is a strong green with his body panels being black with flames on the front and sides of the car.

Unlike most of the NWWT regulars, points leader Kyle Miller, out of Eugene, has turned competitive laps before at Grays Harbor Raceway, which could give him an advantage. Miller has openly said he’s having so much fun running wingless, and that became more the case on August 15th when he won the NWWT event at Cottage Grove Speedway, where he won track championships with the wings on his car in 2007 and 2008.

Kyle and his father Scott also volunteered to put their black colored No. 10 Springer-powered XXX on display at Elma Lanes. Because of his past experience at Grays Harbor Raceway, Miller is being looked at as a possible favorite to win the inaugural Grays Harbor Non-Wing Challenge.

The Grays Harbor Non-Wing Challenge is expected to be the biggest event on the inaugural season schedule for the IXL Metal Conditioner NorthWest Wingless Tour, which hopes to make the Grays Harbor Non-Wing Challenge one of its anchor events in the near future. More than 40 cars are now expected for what is believed to be the first non-wing sprint car event ever in Grays Harbor Raceway’s history.

Competition Motorsports has come aboard as a sponsor for the trophy dash race and quick time award. The driver who sets fast time and officially establishes the new track record for non-wing 360 sprint cars will earn a $150 bonus. Competition Motorsports is also putting up $300 for the trophy dash race, which will pay $200 to win, $50 for second and $25 each for third place and fourth place. Should someone take both quick time in qualifying as well as win the dash, it’ll be $350 won by that driver before main event time. Herz Precision Parts and DRI-EAZ have both come aboard as associate sponsors for the event. As of now, a $275 bonus from the NWWT will go to the winner of the Grays Harbor Non-Wing Challenge on top of the $800 from the track.

More sponsorship opportunities for the Grays Harbor Non-Wing Challenge are available, with all secured money becoming bonuses that will go to the drivers.
