
PLACERVILLE, California — This Saturday night will mark the penultimate night of championship racing at ASA Sanctioned Placerville Speedway as the 2009 Red Hawk Casino championship season winds down to the final two segments of the year.
Winged Sprint Cars, Limited Late Models and Pure Stocks will all be on hand this Saturday night as all three championship titles are far from being decided. The three track regulars are being joined by the Midget Lites of the Bay Cities Racing Association.
In the Sprint Car division, defending track champion Colby Wiesz of Colfax continues to lead the standings with a 17-point advantage over Scott Russell of Placerville. Placerville’s own C.J Humphreys is third in the ranks, 22 points out of the lead while Jimmy Trulli of Diamond Springs is fourth, 44-points from the top spot. Former champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn rounds out the top five.
The Pure Stock division is home to the closest race for the championship title. Former Champion Tom Tilford of Citrus Heights sits atop the point standings with a mere four point advantage over arch rival Heather Bartlett of Chico. Tilford has seven feature wins this year with Bartlett holding four wins to her record. Rick Grunert is a distant third in the standings, 77-points out while Eddie Gardner is fourth followed by Placerville’s Danielle Clauson.
In the Limited Late Model-Pro Stock division, Jerry Bartlett of Yuba City continues to rule the division with a 16-point lead over defending champion Dan Brown Jr. of Nevada City. Bartlett has seven wins, Brown has two to his name so far. Jay Norton of Shingle Springs has charged to the third position in the ranks while Forryst Carnett of Placerville sits fourth over one time winner John Krehbiel of Placerville.
The winged midget lites are set to join the three Placerville regulars. Don’t miss this second to last night of championship racing at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds.
