Team Bodybuilding.Com/Minegar Racing Driver Craig Bell Flexed Muscle with Fourth Place Performance
BOISE, IDAHO (August 27, 2009) –This past weekend, BodyBuilding.Com/Minegar Racing driver Craig Bell of Kuna, Idaho continued his strong performance this season in the CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series. Bell finished fourth in the annual NAPA Auto Parts “125” at the ultra-fast 3/8-mile paved oval of Rocky Mountain raceways outside Salt Lake City, Utah to stay in contention for the series championship.
Bell’s fourth place effort in round seven of the popular Late Model series was his fifth top five of the season and 31st top five finish of his career (all-time leader), but still lost a little ground in the championship hunt. Bell qualified 8th for the 125-lap race and finished 8th in his heat earlier in the day. “Qualifying is key and we just missed it,” Bell said. “We had a great car for the race but we gave up a few points in qualifying and the heat race. We race well and that is what we are best at.”
From his 7th starting spot on the grid, Bell quickly moved forward and waged a spirited battle with eventual race winner John Dillon during the first third of the race. Bell would eventually fall back as low as sixth before mountain a charge late in the event.
That charge came over the final 25-laps when Bell, Jeff Jefferson, Jonathon Gomez, and Dylan Caldwell all wrestled for a spot in the top five. As often happens in racing, there is only so much real estate to go around and in this race there were far too many bidders. On the final lap, Bell was up to fourth and pressuring Gomez for third who had just passed Bell for the position just a few hundred feet before when the two tangled in turn four. When the smoke settled the incident also collected Jefferson and Caldwell but since the checkered flag had dropped those involved were scored based on the last green flag lap, awarding Bell the fourth place position.
“I am happy with the finish but not necessarily how we got there,” Bell said. “This whole BodyBuilding.Com/Minegar Racing continues to deliver and I let them down a bit in this one. “A top five is always good and I enjoyed racing these guys in the race and I hope we can keep the roll going at Meridian.”
Bell maintains fourth in the championship standings but lost ground on third place (-54) and is 166-points behind point leader John Dillon. Bell is a multi-time track champion at Meridian Speedway where he started his racing career. He has raced in all forms of stock cars at the historic oval. Bell finished fifth at Meridian back in July in the RMCS event.
Minegar Racing is sponsored by BodyBuilding.com, Redline, Ultimate Nutrition, Supreme Nutrition, Muscletech, SciFit, Gaspari Nutrition, A-1 Heating and Air Conditioning, and Dillon Auto Craft. The next event for BodyBuilding.Com/Minegar Racing is this Saturday, August 29 at Meridian (ID) Speedway.
