Clint Curry (#85) and the Champion Wheel Team are ready to head down to Bakersfield. The Fresno based Team had hoped to run two entries in this race, but they couldn't get an engine for the second car in time.
Team owner, Milan Garrett, was planning to run the #42 in the same race. The Team was hoping to get the engine for the #42 by Wednesday and spend the remainder of the week getting it put in and taking care of some other last minute details. Garrett, who finished 25th in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Race at Mesa Marin was really looking forward to running his new Southwest Tour car. As Garrett put it, "I ran over 250 laps during the truck weekend, and now I'm ready to get behind the wheel again at Mesa Marin.
Because the Team had planned to spend the latter part of this week putting in an engine, they have Curry's #85 and all loaded and ready to go. They are just waiting for Saturday. This is Curry's second season running the the SWT. With a more solid feel for the car, look for Curry to show marked improvement. The former Grand National Go Kart Champion clearly has the driving ability to make it to the front of the pack.
