SANTA MARIA, California — The Dominator " Brad Pounds won the IMCA Main Event at Santa Maria Speedway on Saturday Night. That makes it 13 wins for him in 2009 and 118 career wins. Pounds who had engine trouble with his primary car ended up driving his girlfriends car which is a Side Biter Chassis like his. He also maintains that car at his shop in Bakersfield, California.
Pounds started 22nd and worked his way up through the field. He started dueling for the lead around lap 24 of the 30 lap race when Pounds made the pass for the lead but the yellow came out and he was put back to 2nd. He passed again for the lead and the
yellow came out again. On lap 28 he made it stick, took the lead, and won the race.
Pounds 13 wins are at Bakersfield Speedway (5), Santa Maria Speedway(2), Kings Speedway(1), Ocean Speedway (1), Tulare (1), Death Valley (1), Mojavie (1), and Chowchilla (1). This made him the winner of a contest that includes all those tracks except Bakersfield Speedway. He was awarded a jacket and a trophy. Pounds is 3rd in points for the IMCA State Championship and 7th in the Region.
Pounds is preparing to leave for Boone Iowa for the IMCA Nationals at the end of this week. There will be at least 400 cars trying to make the main event at Boone on September 12th. Pounds finished 7th in last years main event. He will be racing at Bakersfield Speedway Saturday Night before leaving for Boone.
Brad Pounds has been racing since he was 14. He has driven Hobby Stocks, Street Stocks, IMCA's, and Late Models. He started in the Hobby Stocks at Bakersfield Speedway with a win by his 4th race.
