VENTURA, Calif — Sept. 2, 2009) – Ventura Raceway plays host to eight classes of racing Saturday and offers race fans a chance to enjoy the summer’s final racing thrill before the fall.
The Ventura Racing Association’s Sprint Car class and Senior Sprint Cars will highlight the race card. Also on tap will be the Senior Dwarf Cars, IMCA Modifieds, Junior Focus Midgets and the VRA youth divisions.
The spectator gates open at 3 p.m. at the Raceway Saturday. The flag salute is scheduled for 5:30. Fans are encouraged to watch for free tee-shirts as they rain down from the sky.
Last week’s action drew 135 entries to the track and one of the largest fan turnouts of the season. The racing was frenetic and this weekend’s competition figures to be the same.
Ventura’s Bruce Douglas holds a narrow 2,200-2,165 advantage over Oak Park’s Rob Kershaw in the Senior Sprint championship chase. Two-time track champion Jack Parker, of Simi Valley, trails Ventura’s Austin Rodarte, 521-477, in the IMCA Modified title hunt.
Last week’s crowd of 135 entries, 47 of them sprint cars, indicated how popular the Raceway’s quick-paced program is with racers.
