MARYSVILLE, Washington — On Labor Day Weekend the iRacing.com American Speed Association Northwest Late Model Tour will be at Yakima Speedway in Yakima, Washington for the Annual Better All Auto Sales/Better-Haul Auto Transport 150. This prestigious event once again has drawn the best Super Late Model Stock Car racers together for the two day extravaganza on September 5 & 6. With just two races remaining for the ASA NWLMT championship and 12 points separating the top two, the weekend sets up to be one of the best this season.
Gary Lewis (Snohomish, WA) has a precarious lead for the first ever iRacing.com ASA NWLMT championship. Just 12-points out of the lead Brent Harris (E. Wenatchee, WA) will head to a track he has always felt comfortable at. Likewise Lewis has had good results on the fabled .500 mile paved oval.
A 150-lap feature on Sunday night will end a full weekend of racing. On Saturday the Northwest’ only Super Late Model Stock Car traveling series will set the starting lineup for the big Better All Auto Sales/Better-Haul Auto Transport 150 presented by First Class Auto Sales. Qualifying via the time clock will be followed by twin 25-lap qualifying heat races to set the inside and outside rows.
There are over 20 pre-entered. The best local racers have entered such as: Mike Longton (Moxee, WA) a former speedway champion and a winner in 2009 on the prestigious ASA NWLMT, Erick Hargraves (Toppenish, WA) has enjoyed success at his home track, Owen Riddle (Naches, WA) is the current point leader for the 2009 Yakima Speedway Late Model track championship, Jeff Jefferson (Naches, WA) has won three NASCAR Championships and is currently in the thick of the battle for the Rocky Mountain Challenge Series Championship, Ed Thomsen (Kennewick, WA) always a threat at YS and Scott Walker (Prosser, WA) is fresh off a win of the Riverside 150 at Columbia Motor Speedway this past weekend.
Add in the likes of Pete Harding (Surrey, B.C.) who considers YS as his home track and where he has enjoyed many of his wins during his 40+ years of racing. Kelly Mann (Monroe, WA) who is no stranger to victory lane on the super fast .500-mile oval.
Others to watch are the series current leader for the Port City Racecar ‘Rookie Challenge’ Joey Tanner (Portland, OR). Shelby Thompson (Spokane, WA) has won on the INNSA series and likes the .500-mile ovals. He started racing at YS and has come close in the past Mark Sundberg (Settle, WA) is due for a win. Jay Sauls (Puyallup, WA) has an ASA NWLMT win this season and would like to follow up with another.
In addition to those already mentioned Amanda MacDonald (Ephrata, WA), Alan Cress (Albany, OR), James Mugge (Everett, WA), Brad Stanwood (Portland, OR), Harold Raczynski (Duvall, WA), Jimmy Johnson (Orting, WA), Jared Vorse (Olympia, WA) and making his debut at Yakima Speedway and on the ASA NWLMT is high school sophomore Austin Thom (Dundee, OR) are all capable of taking home the winner’s check of $3000.00.
Others are expected to join the best of the Northwest for the weekend. It all starts on Saturday September 5 with a full afternoon of practice leading up to clock qualifying to determine the starting order for the twin 25-lap qualifying heats to be held under the lights plus local classes. It continues Sunday night with more local action leading up to the most important Better All Auto Sales/Better-Haul Auto Transport 150. Racing begins each evening at 7:00pm.
The annual visit to Yakima Speedway for the ASA NWLMT brings with it an added purse courtesy of the Northwest’s engine builders. The 4th annual Engine Builders Challenge has the winner of the race winning $3000.00. If a participating engine builder engines wins the 150 they will receive a $300.00 bonus check. Everyone will have their best motors ready for action.
