UPLAND, California — Amidst the flurry of paperwork and phone calls in the corporate offices of ASA Speed Truck Challenge this week, President Jay Rutherford was all smiles as he talked about the series’ next race at the already famous track of the “Bullring” at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. “Sure, we are always pleased to race in Las Vegas,” he exclaimed. “Our first race at the “Bullring” last April was a crowd-pleaser and saw another dramatic finish and first time winner and we expect this race to be no different.”
Rutherford has an entry list of 20 Speed Trucks for the second event at the Bullring in the 2009 racing season for the ASA Speed Truck Challenge. “Everyone loves the 3/8’s mile LVMS Bullring track and they know that it will take a great driving effort to win there in 100 grueling laps,” Rutherford continued. The ASA Speed Truck Challenge has been on summer break since the June 13th race at TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale and without doubt numerous drivers are hungry for a Top 5 finish. We have seen excellent driving from numerous racers, which has been the standard trademark of this dramatic, hard-charging and very competitive and traveling racing series now boasting 5 different winners in 6 races of its 13th racing season.
Between the first and the last qualifying times this season with an average of 18 Speed Trucks per event, there is only 7/10 of a second difference in these qualifying times which certainly makes racing action very tight and door to door.
"The Speed Trucks put on an entertaining show and showcase some of the top young drivers from the region," said Chris Blair, LVMS Vice President of Racing Operations. "We are glad to feature them on our 2009 schedule and believe that this event will produce 100 laps of exciting racing action."
The Speed Trucks are 2450 pounds, full tube chassis, 108 inch wheelbase, 375 horsepower Van Gordon Racing V-8’s, fired by Mr. Gasket’s - Mallory / ACCEL ignition systems and VP Race Fuel, with 2-speed direct drive transmissions and Speedway Engineering aluminum quick change rear ends on 8-inch Hoosier Racing Tires and Allied Racing Wheels and can reach speeds of 105 MPH at the ½ mile TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale oval and 150 MPH on the 2.1-mile road course at Firebird International Raceway. The Speed Trucks sport exact replica Norris Racing fiberglass bodies in Chevy S-10, Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger, Dodge Dakota and Toyota Tacoma.
