NEWTON, Iowa — An exciting return to Iowa Speedway for the NASCAR Camping World West Series in the Central Iowa Building & Construction Trades 125 event.
There were high hopes for Jarit Johnson piloting the #74 Chevrolet, sponsored by Karl Chevrolet / Jimmie Johnson Foundation. In practice, the car just didn’t seem to take to the adjustments that were made earlier on. The team worked diligently, changing a gear and making other minor adjustments, during the final practice. This in turn, allowed driver and team to see results on the track.
Qualifying run resulted in a 22nd position, and in speaking to Driver Jarit Johnson, “man… if it’s not one thing it’s another, but we’ll get there, the guys are working hard and I feel we’ll be pretty good.” With optimism and faith, both Jarit Johnson and his team were ready to race.
As the race gets underway…. Jarit moves up from 22nd to 18th by lap 85. On lap 93 Jarit gets lose and brushes the wall. Damaged caused by wall contact forces him to pit. The crew worked to fix the toe (wheel alignment) in the front. With time being an issue, Jarit hurries back out on to the track to stay on the lead lap.
With a little struggle and a lot of determination Jarit races hard and finishes in 18th position. His reply, “it was my fault I hit the wall, the team work hard through our troubles and I just got lose.” But he was reminded by someone, that it happens and you just have to focus on the next race and move forward. In that he agreed.
Jarit Johnson is running a select schedule and currently seeking sponsorship. For more information please visit http://www.jaritjohnson.com/ or call 704.252.4636 direct
