IRWINDALE, California — To celebrate the start of the of the school year, all students and teachers will be admitted for free when attending this Saturday’s (September 12) Back to School Night at TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale. The promotion applies to all students, teachers and administrative personnel who attend or work at grade, middle and high schools, colleges, trade and vocational schools. School identification is required when obtaining the complimentary ticket at the Speedway ticket office.

Saturday evening’s NASCAR Whelen All-American racing action is headlined by the NASCAR ACDelco Super Late Model twin 40-lap final points races, Langers Juice S2 25-lap race, Jan’s Towing Bandoleros 20-lap race and a Pick Your Part Outlaw Figure 8 20-lap race. The evening will be capped off by an always entertaining Demolition Derby.

Nick Joanides has all but clinched the NASCAR Whelen All-American California State Championship and with the national championship out of reach the Woodlands Hills resident hopes to capture a podium finish in the national championship standings. However on Saturday night Joanides will be focusing on capturing his second consecutive ACDelco Super Late Model feature division championship at TOYOTA Speedway. Entering Saturday’s twin bill, Joanides leads the division standings with 936 points including an 82 point lead over former champion Rip Michels of San Fernando (854 points). Joanides performance in Super Late Model competition has been remarkable having won 13 feature races with five runner-up finishes and finishing no lower than third place on one other occasion.

Heading into Saturday evening’s Legends Cars competition, Ryan Reed of Bakersfield leads the division championship standings with 602 points. Fellow Bakersfield resident Brandon Toy is in second place with 546 points. Since the third race of the season, Reed has been on a role with a win and six runner-up finishes to his credit. Reed has also finished in the top five in all but two races this season.

The new Langers Juice S2 division returns to action on Saturday for its fifth race of a seven race schedule. Randel King of Riverside has dominated the action winning three of the first four races and leads the division point standings with 196 points. The series features a turn-key spec economy stock car with a fully-fabricated chassis. The car includes a spec plastic body featuring a NASCAR Sprint Cup style rear wing and a Chevy 350hp sealed crate engine power plant. The complete turn-key cost of the car is estimated at $25,000.
