GLENN AND ROMERO SPLIT TWIN 50’S AT AAS

ROSEVILLE, California — Orangevale’s Gary Glenn (#50) won the first and Cameron Park’s Jason Romero (#8) won the second of Toyota TRD Twin 50’s at The All American Speedway last Saturday night.

Twin 50 #1

Elk Grove’s Ron Chunn (#44) started from the pole with Galt’s Juan Pitta (#16) on his outside. Row 2 was made up of Pine Grove’s Matt Scott (#35) and Romero. Row 3 was filled with veterans; Roseville’ Eric Schmidt (#05) and Granite Bay’s John Moore (#27).

Chunn led early as the field mixed it up behind him. Romero would get from fourth to second on Lap 9. Moore climbed to third on Lap 12 getting by Scott for the position. Roseville’s Shannon Mansch started ninth and is up to sixth on Lap 15.Gary Glen is up to seventh on Lap 16.

After battling Chunn for the first half of the race, Romero gets by him for the lead on Lap 24. At the halfway mark (25 laps) your top five is Romero, Chunn, Moore, Scott, and Schmidt. On Lap 36 Romero spins and will restart from the rear of the field. Moore will inherit the lead but it was short-lived. Glenn would take the lead from him on the very next lap. Carson City’s Bobby Hodges (#89) made the pass on Chunn for second on Lap 37 but Chunn would get back around him for second on the next lap.

With nine to go its Glenn, Chunn, Matt Scott now up to third, Hodges, and Schmidt. But Glenn is tough to beat up front in clean air with laps dwindling. Chunn would get around Scott for second, but Glenn would go on for the win. Rookie Ron Chunn had another impressive run crossing the line second. Seventeen year old Matt Scott would bring it home third. ’07 AAS Champ Eric Schmidt is fourth for his efforts. Shannon Mansch is the Hard Charger of the race rounding out the top five.

Twin 50 #2

Another invert after Race #1 put Romero on the pole with Bobby Hodges outside. Schmidt would start third with Mansch fourth. Glenn is inverted back to seventh for the start of this one.

Green!

Mansch gets by Hodges for second early. Scott would get by Hodges for third on Lap 5. Pitta started ninth and is up to sixth on Lap 7. Scott makes a pass on Mansch for second on Lap 10. Romero continues to lead.

At the halfway point its Romero, Scott, Mansch, Hodges, and Pitta. Moore gets by Pitta for fifth on Lap 27. Hodges makes the pass on Mansch for third on Lap 32. Moore goes around her for fourth on Lap 33.

That’s how this one would finish. Romero goes on to lead every lap of the race. Matt Scott crosses the stripe second. A great finish for him in his battle for Rookie of the Year.

Bobby Hodges is third for his efforts in Race #2. John Moore turns in a fourth place finish. Shannon Mansch rounds out the top five in fifth.

In qualifying, Eric Schmidt was tops of the speed charts with a lap of 13.906/ 77.664MPH.

Jason Romero won the Late Model Trophy Dash defeating Schmidt, Moore, and Scott.

Modifieds

Lincoln’s Luke Kaper (#39) would start this one from the pole with W. Sac’s Buddy Anderson on his outside in Row 1. Citrus Heights’ Rick Anderson (#11) would start from Row 2 with Lincoln’s Nick Lyons (#43) on his outside. Points Leader Jarred Beddow (#50) would start fifth.

Kaper leads early until he’s passed by Lyons for the lead on Lap 5. Hayward’s Jessica Brunelli (#3) stated sixth and climbs her way up to third. She runs second on Lap 6 but is passed by Jarred Beddow on the nest lap. He’s coming!

The leader Lyons is involved in an incident with Beddow on Lap 20. Lyons would leave the track and Beddow would continue, but from the back of the pack. Rick Anderson would inherit the lead on Lap 21.

At the halfway mark, Anderson is your leader. Brunelli runs solidly in second. Michael Newland (#00) started seventh and is now up to third with a good run. Kaper is fourth. Brett Barney (#81) is running fifth with one of his best efforts to date.

In the end, Rick Anderson wins his first race of the season. The win was a long time in coming. Congratulations! Brunelli would cross second with a great effort. Newland turns in a third place finish. Beddow fight his way back all the way from the rear to finish fourth. The win unofficially gives him the AAS Track Championship. Kaper crosses the stripe fifth.

In the Divisions Trophy Dash where the top two finishers from each of the Heat Races advance, Beddow defeats Lyons, Anderson, and Newland.

Street Stocks

Twenty-three cars would take the green for this one. The Street Stocks have consistently turned in some of the best cars counts of any division.

Roseville’s Roy Smith (#7) would start this one from the pole with “Racin” Bryan Tomeraason (#80) of Galt on his outside. Row 2 was made up of Mark Blanton (#22) and “Dangerous” Dan Patton (#69) of Citrus Heights. Point’s leader Mickey Owens (#08) of Elverta starts fifth. Let’s go green!

Blanton gets by Tomeraason for second on the first lap. Owens goes around him on Lap 4. Owens gets the lead on Lap 7. He is a man on a mission.

Just when it looked as though Owens would run away with this one, Smith goes around him for the lead on Lap 16. However, that just made him mad. Owens would go back around on the very next lap. Keep an eye out for Loomis’ Chris Lambert (#50). He’s charging from mid-pack. He started sixth and is up to third on Lap 27.

Smith is driving his heart out to try and stay with Owens and makes yet another pass for the lead on Lap 28. Smith would go on to lead the next 11 laps and looked like he might bring this one home when Mickey Owens gets around him once again to take the lead with just two laps remaining. Lambert makes the pass on Smith for second on the last lap. What a great race! Mickey Owens goes on to win! Lambert is second. Smith hangs on and finishes third. Mel Wilson (#2) of Rio Linda quietly finishes fourth. Sacramento’s “Mighty” Mike Dickson (#76) turns in one of his best performances to date crossing fifth.
