COTTAGE GROVE, Oregon — As the inaugural season of the iRacing.com ASA Northwest Late Model Tour begins to wind down Joey Tanner of Portland is looking to finish the season strong. Already having a break out year the driver of the Jody’s Bar & Grill #36 Asphalt Late Model has posted two top fives and four top ten finishes with the brand new series.
The nineteen-year-old standout was scheduled to be in action last Saturday and Sunday at the Yakima Speedway in Washington for the ASA Northwest Late Model Tour 150 but rain has postponed the event until September 19th.
Tanner did get some racing in though as he made the transition from pavement to dirt on Tuesday at the Cottage Grove Speedway in his Clements Racing Engines #111 Rocket chassis Dirt Late Model. The night started off great by winning his heat race and started up front in the thirty-lap feature at the ¼ mile clay oval. Tanner was challenging for the lead late in the race until the leaders got together in front of him and he had nowhere to go. Luckily he did not damage his car and was able to continue and rallied to a tenth place finish.
Next the team will go back to the asphalt to the Wenatchee Valley Super Oval this Saturday for the ASA Northwest Late Model Tour 125 in East Wenatchee, Washington. Currently Tanner is leading the Rookie Challenge point standings by a mere a two points with three races to go. In the overall standings he is currently fourth in points and only one hundred twenty one points behind the current leader. The last time he visited the facility he had some rough luck but is looking to win.
