
Salt Lake City, Utah -- Rocky Mountain Raceways concluded its’ 2009 oval season with a packed house for the Torch 100.
Jeff Verlin took the lead in lap one of the Maverik Modified main event. Verlin dominated the tight pack for the first portion of the 100-lap race.
In lap fifty-five Roger Wilson stole the lead out of turn 4. “We were working on the inside and stayed low,” said Wilson.
Wilson led the rest of the Torch 100 and took home the victory.
“This feels awesome. I have never won a 100-lap race,” said Wilson.
Kipp Posey celebrated his 2009 Rocky Mountain Raceways Ford Focus Midget Championship.
“It’s been great. This has been a really good season. We are happy that Rocky Mountain Raceways has this great facility,” said Posey.
Rocky Mountain Raceways partnered with the Utah Special Olympics to celebrate athletes.
“This day is really for the athletes. It is something fun for them and it helps to increase awareness for the Utah Special Olympics,” said Glenn Lanham, CEO for Utah Special Olympics.
The fundraising event involved “The World’s Largest Truck Convoy” hosted by the Law Enforcement Torch Run. The convoy of forty trucks ended at Rocky Mountain Raceways where drivers were allowed to take a lap around the oval track.
Oval classes that ran tonight included Ford Focus Midgets, Super Stocks, Maverik Modifieds, Western States Equipment Figure 8 Cars and Figure 8 Trains.
The night’s winners included Chuck Groat (Ford Focus Midgets), Dillion Lawrence (Super Stocks), Eric Rhead (Western States Equipment Figure 8 Cars) and Roger Wilson (Maverik Modifieds).
In addition to oval racing, Rocky Mountain Raceways hosts drag racing, motocross racing, monster trucks and drifting.
Rocky Mountain Raceways next events include the Summit Super Series (September 18), RMR Bracket Championships (September 19) and Night of Fire Jet Car Show (September 26).
