WADDELL READY FOR FINAL NIGHT IN POINTS

COTTAGE GROVE, Oregon — The last time we left off with the driver of the Budget Lumber #10J Rocket chassis the team had just dodged a bullet with their motor on August 8th. Jake Waddell of Roseburg has only race twice since then as he is entering Welt & Welt Inc. Championship Night this Saturday looking to pick up his first track championship at the Cottage Grove Speedway. The reason he has only raced two times is because the Limited Sprints as a class have only raced two times in the last month or so.

On August 15th Waddell was looking to complete a clean sweep in the main event after setting fast time of the night and winning his heat race. Tragedy struck on the seventh lap in the fourth turn when Waddell got upside down and flipped hard while running eighth.

From then on it was no racing for the class for multiple reasons. On the August 22nd date only vintage cars were on hand for the weekend while the 29th of August was the 20/30 Challenge for the 360 Sprints. And the first race of September, on the 5th, was cancelled due to rain.

So Waddell and the team came out of a more then a month layoff and were prepared to look for their second win of the season. The night started of well for him by posting second fast time of the night and finishing in third in the heat race.

The main event was twenty laps in the distance with Waddell starting in the fifth place position. Things started to go smoothly for him until a rear right suspension bar broke causing lots of trouble with the handling of the car. At times it looked like the car was going to get into trouble but the driver was intelligent enough not to push the envelope. At the end of the race they were able to finish the race in the sixth place position.

Overall the team thought they would have been more effective if it hadn’t been for the suspension bar breaking. But on the other hand they were happy that they finished the race and looked to seal off the points chase. They will be looking forward to make it official this Saturday and finally celebrate after a year of great success and tough times.
