YAKIMA, Wadhington — Gary Lewis (Snohomish, WA) won the iRacing.com American Speed Association Northwest Late Model Tour 2009 Season Championship and the Better All Auto Sales 150 at Yakima Speedway. Second place in the race went to Jared Vorse (Olympia, WA) on the podium for the first time this season. Garret Evans finished third.
The 2009 championship point’s chase closed to within one point before the start of the 150 lap feature. Brent Harris (E. Wenatchee, WA) gained one point by being the fastest qualifier. During the race Harris started behind Lewis and it looked like it would go right down the checkers for the championship. Lewis took the lead on a restart late in the race and Harris fell back out of contention.
Lewis by virtue of the championship now has an ASA banner to go with his NASCAR banner. The family and friends run team celebrated their victory with flowing champagne in the winner’s circle.
