COTTAGE GROVE, Oregon — What a night it was for Jake Waddell of Roseburg going into last Saturday night at the Cottage Grove Speedway. It had been a night where weather had not exactly been the most cooperative and it in fact looked as if at a few points the last race of the season would be canceled.
The night though would not be ended due to rain and the night would in fact be completed. The rain and precipitation did delay the start of the night for some time but would eventually get underway starting with heat races.
In the Limited Sprint heat race the pilot of the Budget Lumber #10J Rocket Chassis would go on to finish fourth and would end up starting in the second row and would be looking for his second win of the year. In the main event it was the start that was the most important event of the night.
The twenty-five-lap race saw Waddell secure the third place position and hold it on the start to the end. The race went caution free as the competitors proved to be very equal on the ¼ mile racing surface. The night for the team finished on a high note as they had endured some very hard luck throughout the year. It was also enough of a good run to secure the Limited Sprint points championship his first of his career. The team has one more weekend as they head back to the Cottage Grove Speedway for the Northwest Wingless Championships this Friday and Saturday, it will be Waddell’s first race without a wing.
