Dave Byrd will race tonight Saturday, September 26th, at Stockton 99 Speedway, in the final points night for the year. Byrd, the 1994 and 1996 Stockton 99 Speedway Track Champion was chosen to substitute drive for veteran driver and regular contender Tim Spurgeon, in the Quall’s Motorsports Rentals prepared number 86 car, while Tim is at another event.
This call to drive a Western Late Model comes one week before Dave is scheduled to drive in The Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series race at the same track.
“The race is promoted as Fan Appreciation Night, but the appreciation runs full circle around this team” shared Byrd. “Tim tells me he appreciates that I am willing to drive for him, but I appreciate that Tim trusts me with his car. I love racing at this track and it should prove invaluable to get some laps in before next week’s race.”
Dave’s last endeavor was in the “Tour” race at Madera Speedway on September 5th. After a very dedicated crew had to get up early to switch out the “new” rear-end of the car after it broke in Friday night’s practice. Race day didn’t go much better as the borrowed rear-end had a damaged locking device. Dave spent every lap of the race trying to anticipate which way the car was going to turn each time the rear-end switched from two wheel drive to one wheel drive. Dave battled the car to a ninth place finish.
