
IRWINDALE, California — Saturday (October 3) is Breast Cancer Awareness Night at TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale and all women and children 12 years of age and under will be admitted into the event for free. Representatives from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization will be at the event and anyone who makes a monetary donation to the organization will receive a commemorative TOYOTA Speedway pink cap while supplies last.
It is also Southern California Pipe Trades Night and members of the various local Pipe Trades unions will also be admitted into the event for free.
The Speedway will also be hosting its annual Truck and Big Rig beauty contest. Truck drivers who drive their rigs to the event will be admitted for free will have the opportunity to participate in the contest and special parade around the Speedway’s half-mile oval during pre-race ceremonies.
Saturday evening’s NASCAR Whelen All-American racing action includes an Auto Club Late Model 40-lap twin race final points finale, 40-lap King Taco Super Truck race, 35-lap Southwest Tour Trucks race and a much anticipated all Women Demolition Derby.
Nick Joanides will attempt to accomplish something on Saturday night no other racing competitor at TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale has been able to achieve – win championships in the Speedway’s two premiere divisions, ACDelco Super Late Model and Auto Club Late Model divisions, in the same season. On September 12 Joanides captured his second consecutive Super Late Model division crown, clinched the NASCAR Whelen All-American California State Championship and finished third in the NASCAR national short track championship standings. Joandies now has his sights on the Auto Club Late Model division title. The Woodland Hills resident enters Saturday night’s twin bill with 700 points including a 34 point lead over reigning champion Tim Huddleston (666 points) of Agoura Hills who occupies second place. Also in mathematical contention is Travis Irving (656 points) of Long Beach who is in third place and 44 points back after sweeping the twin bill on September 19 with a pair of wins and Mike Johnson of Covina (630 points) who is in fourth place and 70 points behind Joanides.
Two races remain in the King Taco Super Trucks season and only 26 points separate the top four drivers in the division standings led by reigning champion Pat Mintey Jr. of Quartz Hill with 586 points followed by Rod Johnson Jr. of Canyon Country who is in second place with 576 points. The father and son tandem of Ron Peterson (562 points) who won the 2006 division champion and Jeff Peterson (560 points) occupy the third and fourth positions. Three other drivers are in mathematical contention which include rookie Ryan Partridge (5th place / 514 points) of Rancho Cucamonga, Grant Hebner (6th place / 496 points) of Fallbrook and Mason Britton (7th place / 490 points) of Sacramento.
Christian Copley of Santa Ynez leads the Southwest Tour Trucks overall point standings with 1,636 points followed by Jeff Williams of Newberry who is in second place with 1,595 points while Dalton Kuhn of San Marcos is in third with 1,485 points. Kuhn has dominated the action at TOYOTA Speedway winning five of the six Southwest Tour Truck races held at the Speedway this year.
Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. The King Taco fan appreciation autograph session is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. with drivers, crews and race cars on the oval track. The first feature race gets underway at 7 p.m.

Test and Tune drag racing takes place each Thursday evening at TOYOTA Speedway’s Drag Strip with gates opening at 4 p.m. and competition gets underway at 5 p.m. It costs $20.00 to race and $10.00 to watch with kids five and under getting in free.
