Drivers across North America brought home more race wins and season championships in their XXX chassis this weekend. Sprint car winners included Kyle Miller, Jeremy Burt and Mike Herrington. Quinton Benson and DJ Estes took their XXX 600's to victory lane. Bob Martin wrapped up the NOSA season championship and Daron Clayton secured third in season points and the Rookie of the Year award with the All Star Circuit of Champions.
Clayton's 2009 points season wrapped up at the Terra Haute Action Track in Indiana. After a rough start to the year in Florida ("I had to unlearn some of the bad habits I picked up driving non-wing", said Clayton), Daron picked up steam through August and early September, highlighted by picking up the coveted Knoxville Nationals Rookie of the Year award. Overall, Clayton's two top fives and seven top tens set him up well for a run at the All Star championship in 2010. Congratulations Daron and team owner Anthony Knighten on your strong 2009!
Kyle Miller has been arguably one of the most successful XXX drivers, having won two championships in his XXX chassis, and on track for a third. This season, Miller has competed almost exclusively in non-wing 360 action with a lot of success, picking up his third win of the year at Cottage Grove Speedway in Oregon this past Saturday night. The win netted Kyle a cool $2,500. Miller is on track to win his third different eason points championship in three years, as he leads the points standings for the NorthWest Wingless Tour heading into their season finale this weekend and Willamette Speedway.
Jeremy Burt scored his 4th win of 2009, winning his second race in as many tries at Antioch Speedway in California. Burt came from his 8th place starting spot and rim-road his way around the field to score another victory. Burt's previous two wins came at Marysville Raceway Park where he is a former track champion.
Mike Herrington grabbed his second win of 2009, topping the Cajun Sprinter Association contest at Pike County Speedway in Belle Chase, LA. In his maiden season in an XXX chassis, Herrington has had good success as he sits in the top five in the points chase with the Cajun Sprinter season rounding to a close.
Bob Martin's sprint car season came to a close by wrapping up the NOSA championship. Martin won two main events and picked off four heat race wins on his way to the championship in the traveling 410 series. Over the past 3 years, Martin has been one of the most consistent XXX drivers, with 6 main events wins and numerous top five finishes.
In 600 Mini Sprint action, Quinton Benson picked up a race win for the second weekend in a row at the Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex in Missouri. Benson had a chance to make it three straight main event wins in a row in his XXX 600 in the A-Class division, but it was not to be as he was wrecked out of the lead on Saturday night following his Friday night victory. Also in 600 action, DJ Estes continued his September hot streak with a win at the highly competitive Cowtown Speedway in Kennedale, TX. It was Estes' second win of the month, and the second of the year for XXX 600s at Cowtown, as Kevin Ramey took his 600 to victory lane earlier in the season.
