Joanides Completes Championship Sweep Winning the Auto Club Late Model Division Title
Nick Joanides became the first driver in the history of TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale to win championships in the Speedway’s two premiere divisions, ACDelco Super Late Model and Auto Club Late Model divisions, in the same season. On September 12 the Woodland Hills resident captured his second consecutive Super Late Model division crown, clinched the NASCAR Whelen All-American California State Championship and finished third in the NASCAR national short track championship standings. Joanides scored a win and fourth place finish on Saturday night to win the Auto Club Late Model division title.
Auto Club Late Models Twin Races
Nick Joanides of Woodland Hills scored a win and a fourth place finish in the NASCAR Auto Club Late Model 40-lap twin feature races at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale and clinched the division championship. Last month Joanides won the NASCAR ACDelco Super Late Model division championship and became the first driver in Toyota Speedway history to clinch championships in the Speedway’s two premiere divisions in the same season. Mike Johnson of Covina won the first race of the twin bill and his sixth race of the season. Tim Huddleston of Agoura Hills who won the 2008 Late Model division championship finished second in the first race and fifth in the second race and runner-up in the division standings, 38 points behind Joanides. Travis Irving of Long Beach finished third in both races.
Southwest Tour Trucks
Dalton Kuhn of San Marcos won the Southwest Tour Trucks 40-lap feature race at TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale on Saturday, October 3. The victory was Kuhn’s sixth in seven races at the Speedway in 2009. Christian Copley of Santa Ynez finished second and Jeff Williams of Newberry finished third.
King Taco Super Trucks
Rod Johnson Jr. of Canyon Country won the King Taco Super Trucks 40-lap feature race Saturday night (October 3) at TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale. The victory was Johnson’s seventh of the season and third in the last four races and moved him into a two way tie for the division championship lead with reigning champion Pat Mintey Jr. of Quartz Hill. who finished sixth in the race. Matt Kimball of Mission Viejo finished second and Ron Peterson of Riverside placed third. The division’s final race of the season
Women’s Demolition Derby
Nine cars competed in the All Women Demolition Derby. Christine Thiebert of Westminster won the competition with Tammy Kalb of Bucyrus finishing second and Shayla Zins of Acton finishing third.
