DILLON, South — Carolina -- The cool autumn air definitely brought friskiness and dramatic racing during “Missy’s Night at the Races” at ASA-sanctioned, Dillon Motor Speedway last Saturday.
Local racers from the Carolina Batteries Late Models, Palmetto Auto Auction Chargers, Missy’s Four Cylinders, and the Bombers competed fiercely to become the leader of the pack of their division. Also, the Ford Flat Heads returned with beating and banging with hopes from each driver to claim a checkered flag at ASA-sanctioned, Dillon Motor Speedway.
Missy’s Night began with none other than the rough and tough competitors from Missy’s Four Cylinder division. It was indeed a battle to the finish with David Jeffcoat and Kevin Jackson pounding on each others’ bumpers. Jeffcoat scored the victory to claim the checkered flag of Missy’s Night. However, Jackson put forth a valiant effort to claim second place. Heath Addy, who is also a major threat at ASA-sanctioned, Dillon Motor Speedway, fought to a successful third place.
Next, the East Coast Ford Flatheads soared around DMS to put on a great show for the fans. These coaches and coupes, with their “hot-rod” appearance, left fans remembering similar cars that had raced on the same property back in the day. John Barrow scored his first victory at ASA-sanctioned, Dillon Motor Speedway. Rhonda McKnight put up a scuffle to the finish in a solid second place, followed by James Rogers who finished out the “top three.”
The Bomber division was the next group of race cars to entertain the fans of “Missy’s Night at the Races.” This group had competitors of all ages from adults to 10-year-olds. It is a great division for those competitors who do not have much experience on the race track. This division is a stepping-stone to other racing divisions. Bubba Johnson extinguished the flames from the other Bomber cars by crossing the finish line first to grasp the checkered flag. Mark Dean was also quite the competitor to contend with finishing in second place with D.J. Welch finishing in a strong third place.
Next, the roaring of the engines from the Carolina Batteries Late Models echoed throughout the raceway. A strong battle occurred with Michael Elliott, being the first Late Model to cross the finish line during “Missy’s Night at the Races.” Elliott has proven to be quite the contender at ASA-sanctioned, Dillon Motor Speedway this year. Colt Gilliam raced strongly through the field of cars to finish in a close second place, followed by Robert Powell who finished in third place.
Finally, the special event feature of the Palmetto Auto Auction Chargers began with the drop of the green flag. It was action-packed racing at its best with numerous lead changes from several drivers who anxiously awaited their chance at the ASA-sanctioned, Dillon Motor Speedway checkered flag. William Hainey was that eager someone who declared victory of “Missy’s Night at the Races.” Marty Dean finished in an extremely close second followed by Danny Minnehan who settled with a powerful third place.
