WRIGHTWOOD, California — When the 2009 ASA Speed Truck Challenge driver’s roster was slated, president Jay Rutherford knew that he would have another great season on his hands. Just by the resumes that were represented in this spectacular West Coast truck racing series, he was convinced that this year’s Championship points’ battle would be intense once again. “Although we have many rookies this season,” said Rutherford, “with both seasoned and new drivers, it’s no secret that we have some incredible talent this year.” “Now at the end of our 13th season, another battle to the finish for the Championship and Rookie of the Year will be settled this Saturday night at the Verve! Havasu 95 Speedway.”

The Verve ASA Speed Truck Challenge…presented by Vemma, is a regional touring series in California, Arizona and Nevada. The mid sized trucks travel to a variety of different size and shaped tracks throughout the Southwest sometimes racing at as many as 10 different race tracks. This philosophy helps the drivers move upwards to the professional ranks. With its long term policy of allowing 14 year olds to participate in their races, the series is a breeding ground for developing future racing talent. This year's crop of young drivers includes Cole Cabrera, Donny St Ours, Chris Birdsong and Jeremiah Wagner all of whom are race winners this year. Not to be overlooked here is a group of young drivers who are looking for that break out series win which includes Branden Underwood, Cameron Jocelyn, Zack Sawyers, Race Liberante, Jack Madrid, Dylan Kwasniewski and Josh Goshen.

The 2009 Championship will be decided this Saturday at Havasu 95 Speedway and the point’s battle is very, very tight. Jeremiah Wagner in the #77 Wagner Homes Chevy Colorado sits in the first position at 474 points. Tied for second in the points at 467 are Randel King in the #35 Luke’s Transmission Dodge Dakota and Joey Licata in the #71 Winner’s Circle Chevy S-10. Fourth place at 454 points is the #53 Ag Source Magazine Chevy Colorado of Cole Cabrera and the Top - Five is rounded out with Josh Goshen in the #04 Baker Commodities Chevy Colorado at 408 points.

With 64 points awarded for first, 58 for second, 56 for third and 2 points downward thereafter, the 2009 Championship is anyones guess with this fine group of talented drivers. Don’t forget the 5 points for Fast Time Qualifier which was the determining factor in the 2008 Championship. Get the calculator out and try to figure the potentials and odds.

2009 ASA STC Rookie of the Year will also be decided at Havasu 95 Speedway this Saturday and another very, very tight points battle is here too. Jeremiah Wagner and Cole Cabrera are tied at 28 points and Josh Goshen has 26 points. Rookie points are awarded 3-2-1 for Best Qualifier and 3-2-1 for Best Finishing Rookie at each race. Another battle at hand Saturday night at Havasu 95 Speedway.

“The ASA Speed Trucks have been a part of our speedway since we opened the doors in 2007” stated speedway owner Bill Rozhon. “The whole Speed Truck organization is a joy to work with and they always put on a great show for our fans and to have the Championship decided here at our ASA sanctioned race track is really great for us and Lake Havasu City.” Rozhon concluded.

The Speed Trucks are 2,450 pounds, full tube chassis, 108 inch wheelbase, 375 horsepower Van Gordon Racing V-8’s, fired by Mr. Gasket’s - Mallory / ACCEL ignition systems and VP Race Fuel, with 2-speed direct drive transmissions and Speedway Engineering aluminum quick change rear ends on 8-inch Hoosier Racing Tires and Allied Racing Wheels and can reach speeds of 105 MPH at the ½ mile TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale oval and 150 MPH on the 2.1-mile road course at Firebird International Raceway.
