PRUNEDALE, California — Jim Pettit II is one of some thirty-one drivers expected for the SRL Spears Southwest Touring Series event at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s ‘Bullring’ this Saturday night for the running of the ‘GoLiveStreamTV 154’. The 154 lap race over the 3/8ths mile oval is the season finale for the SRL and Pettit says, “I’m looking forward to ending the season on a good note. Hopefully we can go in there and do like we’re capable of doing, and get a win, which would give us good momentum for next year.”
Although the Prunedale, CA. driver, and current SRL champion, is tied for third in the SRL point standings going into Saturday’s race, the season has not been what he had hoped for. In 2007 and 2008 he had seven wins and ten top three’s in eleven starts. This year, he has one win and six top tens in nine starts. “Compared to the previous two years, our luck definitely went south this year. We lost two of our motors earlier in the year and if it hadn’t been for fellow car owner, Quentin Bammer, loaning us his son’s back-up car, and my crews ‘never give up attitude’, we definitely wouldn’t be where we are in the points.”
The 45 year old driver will again be behind the wheel of the Bammer owned, Golden Gate Petroleum / Moeller Brothers / H.U.R. Performance Engines #03 Chevrolet this weekend. Even though the race is the longest one on the SRL schedule, there will be a five minute break on lap seventy-seven, during which Pettit says, “We can get gas, check the tire pressure, clean the windshield, and get a drink of water. That’s it.” As for the longer race, he says, “I like the longer races because I have a tendency to pace myself a little bit. There’s a lot of guys out there that are accustomed to the longer races as well, but it will also be a learning curve for a bunch of guys who have never run a race this long. So I plan on using my experience and as the race unfolds, either be at, or near, the front when it counts.”
