Dave Byrd and the Voigt Racing Team rolled into Las Vegas, Nevada to race in the GOLIVESTREAM.TV 154 in the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series at “The Bullring” at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Choosing to run a conservative set up with the hope of taking care of the tires in the record 154 lap event, meant sacrificing some speed for the car. Plenty of fingers were crossed while the team waited out to see if the strategy would pay off.

The team practiced with a stable and smooth car, but one that wasn't knocking down the speed charts. Qualifying was a little hard to swallow as the team qualified 22nd out of the 30 SRL cars at the track.

Dave and the team took a little breather from their work and participated in an autograph and an October 31st trick or treat celebration on the front straightaway of the track. Pounds of candy were distributed to many costumed children and adults alike, along with a stack of sponsor information cards that Dave took pleasure in autographing for each fan.

Next up was the main event and 154 laps of "on the edge of your seat racing!" Starting so deep in the field meant being even more vigilant than usual, watching for what was going on around and in front of the car. The first segment went well with the car advancing from its 22nd starting position to the 12th position by the lap 77 halfway point. A mandatory pit stop to refuel the cars and "check" the tires had things looking good for the 04 car. The next 77 laps were a mixture of hard racing and wild action as Dave put on an excellent display of driving finesse, maneuvering around numerous cars that were fighting worn out tires and ill handling set ups to bring the #04 Chevrolet home in 5th place.

“Working out how to make the car last through the longer than normal event length definitely made things challenging, but when it is all said and done,” explained Dave “I'm proud of this team putting together a strategy and sticking to it."

This final night of racing put a period on the Stockcar Racing League's 2009 racing schedule. The teams final top five finish on the year will have the 04 team going to the championship awards banquet sitting 8th in the final point standings out of the 50 or so teams that participated in this seasons events. The banquet will be held on November 21st at Buck Owens Crystal Palace in Bakersfield, California.

For those race fans interested in witnessing one more of Dave Byrd Racing's adventures in circle track racing for the 2009 season, Dave is scheduled to run in Stockton 99 Speedway's "Fall Classic 150" this coming weekend November 6th, 7th and 8th in Stockton, California.
