It was a scary but fun night on Saturday (October 31) at TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale when it hosted its Halloween Celebration and Night of Destruction. The Halloween festivities included a haunted village, trick or treating for the youngsters hosted by the Speedway, its vendors, racing competitors and the Speedway’s vendors, Halloween costume contests were held for toddlers to adults. Fans were also encouraged to bring a carved pumpkin to the event to participate in a carved pumpkin pageant.
Five competitions are scheduled for the Night of Destruction including the Pick Your Part Outlaw Figure 8 West Coast Championship presented by Hoosier Tire, skid car racing, auto soccer as well as Train and Trailer races.
The Outlaw Figure 8 race was run in two 50-lap segments and a cash purse of $10,000 with a $5,000 payout to the winner. Corey Turner of Indianapolis, Indiana arrived at Ontario Airport Saturday afternoon, took a taxi to the Speedway and jumped in his car for practice and qualifying sessions and went on to win the 100-lap West Coast Championship race. Steve Stewart of Long Beach finished second and won his third division championship in the last four years.
Team Pick Your Part defeated Team Jan’s Towing in the Auto Soccer match.
Robert Rice of Hawthorne won the 25-lapTrailer race
The team of Robert Rice of Hawthorne and Keith Johns of Torrance won the Train race.
Brain Tully of Fallbrook won the 16-lap skid plate car race.
