WRIGHTWOOD, California — ASA Speed Truck Challenge will change its name to ASA TRUCK SERIES for the start of the 2010 racing season.
After numerous discussions over the last few months between American Speed Association (ASA) and Speed Truck Challenge presidents, Dennis Huth, and Jay Rutherford, respectively, the decision was made to change the name of the series to the ASA TRUCK SERIES for the 14th racing season. The ASA TRUCKS will race at Tucson Raceway Park, Firebird International Raceway, I-10 Speedway, Havasu 95 Speedway, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale and may return to Orange Show Speedway in 2010.
“We have been asked by several race tracks and cities over the years to bring the series to them and believe now is the time for expansion.” Stated Jay Rutherford, president of the new ASA TRUCK SERIES. “A complete, race ready truck costs less than a Super Late engine. The expansion cities and race tracks (Denver, Salt Lake City, Seattle, currently) with a licensing agreement, will adopt our rule book and the complete trucks, chassis and clips, engines and bodies will be built here with repairs handled locally. We want the expanded series to operate exactly like the original. Allowing 14 year old drivers to move up and have “big car” experience markets the trucks to that demographic. In today’s economy racing ASA TRUCKS just makes sense.” “The name change will help support a national expansion concern with ASA TRUCKS in additional markets and the new name grants the series a much broader scope for the teams, sponsors and advertisers.” “We have always wanted a national Championship run-off and it looks like we will see this in the future.” concluded Rutherford.
“Jay has proven success with his truck series over the last 13 years from many perspectives,” states Dennis Huth, president of ASA. “I know there have been tough years for the series and none tougher than 2009 with the economy but the truck series maintained 18 trucks per race. This bodes well in this economy especially in motorsports. Jay has done a great job over the years with promoting the series as no less than 100 national television shows have been broadcasted on Versus, Outdoor Channel, TNN, Spike, ION and now with FOX Sports for 2010. “ We at ASA are glad to be the long term sanctioning body for the new ASA TRUCK SERIES!” concluded Huth.
ASA is a 38 year old motorsports sanctioning body that has been a fertile proving ground for some of the leading car/truck drivers in American racing history. Racing stars like Jimmy Johnson, Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace, Johnny Benson, Dale Earnhardt, Darrel Waltrip, Terry Labonte, Davey Allison, Kenny Schrader, Jimmy Spencer and Matt Kenseth to name a few all made their way in ASA. The ASA slogan “We build Champions” couldn’t be truer! ASA has built itself into a short-track powerhouse by cultivating racing drivers as they will in the ASA TRUCK SERIES.
ASA has the finest insurance program in the racing industry. ASA members at least age 14 and in good standing are eligible for a $500,000 Excess Medical Benefit as well as a $20,000 Accidental Death and Dismemberment Benefit. Coverage for the member begins while traveling to a location promoting an ASA-sanctioned event and continues until arrival home again. ASA is the only sanctioning body to offer insurance coverage which extends beyond the boundary of the racetrack itself.
