Good coverage? Yes the FOX coverage of NASCAR Winston Cup events has been some of the best.

I now watch the local Fox news in the morning because of their new interest in NASCAR racing. This morning the teaser was “stay tuned, we will bring you the news from Fontana and the races there”.

I stayed tuned and what a disappointment. As the No. 85 of Kevin Richards and the 05 of Team RE/MAX were shown on the track, the announcers mentioned the Winston Cup and the Busch Series. They explained how the Busch Series was a stepping-stone for the Winston Cup. They then gave the schedule for the “TWO” races this weekend, the Busch Race at 12:30 Saturday and the Winston Cup on Sunday.

There was not one mention of the NASCAR Winston West or the local drivers, many of whom probably live only minutes from the editors and decision makers of Fox 11 in Los Angeles.

Maybe it is time we put some pressure on the local press to educate them, that there is more to racing than the Winston Cup and Busch Series. We all have decisions to make and I made an incorrect one watching Fox 11 this morning. I might have missed coverage on another channel.

Staying to watch the “track action at Fontana” on Fox 11 will result in my being late to work. But maybe it was worth it. I did get to see the Winston West cars and the reporters and editors might not have known who they are but several of us did and just seeing them made us feel good.####
