LAS VEGAS – “Danica-mania” is coming to Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Open-wheel racer Danica Patrick announced today that she plans to compete in the Sam’s Town 300 on Feb. 27, scheduling Las Vegas Motor Speedway as one of her stops in the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series.
Patrick made the highly anticipated announcement Thursday.
“We’re ecstatic to be the site of one of Danica’s first races in NASCAR competition,” said LVMS president Chris Powell. “Danica is one of the most recognizable figures in all of sports, and her decision to place the Sam’s Town 300 on her schedule will add tremendous excitement to our 2010 NASCAR Weekend. Her decision to enter stock-car competition opens many doors in the NASCAR world from a promotional standpoint, and it provides a unique opportunity for us to cultivate new fans.”
Patrick announced two weeks ago that she would attempt to participate in a limited NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule for Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s JR Motorsports team. She said that she plans to compete full-time in the Izod IndyCar Series as well. Patrick is expected to compete in no more than 10 NASCAR Nationwide Series races this season.
