The iDevaffiliate sponsorship came about like so many short track deals. Jimmy Webster, owner of IDev, was attending a SLM race at Irwindale in 2009 that Rip was competing in; a mutual friend introduced them after the race.
“I have always wanted to use racing to market our website software,” said Jimmy Webster. “After meeting Rip and talking about ideas for my company with racing, we went for it. It’s been an awesome experience being part of Rip’s race team and we hope to be more involved in 2010. SPEED has excellent coverage and I watch their telecasts all the time. It’s the perfect platform to promote iDevAffiliate.com with Rip driving, and SPEED covering the race”
“The best part about our IDev partnership is the Jimmy is creating a new app for mobile phones that can interrupt SPEC motor ignition signals just in time for the showdown. If the SPEC motors are kicking our butts, Jimmy will access his spec motor app on his phone and slow them down from his spot in the pits. It’s the coolest and totally legal too!” Joked Rip.
The Car:
J-Lo, the flat black Mercedes Benz, has completed her first full year of competition at Toyota Speedway. It has 5 wins, 14 quick times, and finished 2nd in 2009 at Irwindale and 13th in NASCAR National Points. “She really is a qualifying beast, and on a short runs… unstoppable! But she needs some long race tuning to contend for the win,” said Rip.
The Set-up:
“All new package for the showdown. We spent all winter rebuilding the front and rear suspension. We moved both roll centers and changed a bunch of components. The changes should really help in the longer races and give the car move forward grip. Mike Naake also built a set of shocks for us to try out in practice that’s back to basic,” said Rip
The Crew:
The RMR All Stars will be on hand for this once a year race. Roger will call the shots from atop the pit box, Chris will have the tires perfectly staggered for an outside pass, Medlin will spot atop the tower with this trademark “Clear-Clear-Clear” calls. This will be his last race, as he has decided to hang up his spotters head set, and go fishing. Chip will handle pit logistic, Rick is back from his hiatus, and will keep the tank full of race fuel. Jimmy & Jimmy will wrench on J-Lo to keep her in tip-top shape, Jesse will take care of tires, too. Tommie will keep an eye on the competition, and Laurie will keep the boys well fed with her signature style race track cuisine.
