WELKOM, Free State — South Africa - Television networks from around the world are signing up to show a tape-delayed broadcast of the ASA Transcontinental Series Free State 500 event that will take place on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at the Phakisa Freeway Circuit in Welkom, Free State, South Africa. The list continues to grow as the event is only two days away.
"This is exciting to see the interest that this event is receiving worldwide," Dennis Huth, ASA President said. "This event is getting a lot of attention not only because it is the first of its kind in the Republic of South Africa but we also have a great field of drivers from all corners of the world."
Television networks from over 71 countries have requested a copy of the event. Some who have already confirmed they will air the 207-lap/500km event includes: SportSouth, Sun Sports Network, MASN, Comcast SportsNet Chicago, Altitude Sports & Entertainment, Fox Sports Pittsburgh, Fox Sports North, Fox Sports Wisconsin, Time Warner Cable Sportsnet Rochester, NY, Time Warner Cable Buffalo, NY, Time Warner Cable 3, Cox Sports Television New England, KC Metro Sports, The Texas Channel, Comcast Entertainment 900, WGSR TV 47, WDRL TV 24, Cox 3 OC, MAV TV Network, Tuff TV Network, Dish Multi Sports Package, DIRECTV SportsPak, AT&T U-Verse, TSN2, ESPN Israel, ESPN Middle East, ESPN Atlantic, and ESPN Pac Rim.
The inaugural event will feature some of the top talents from around the world including 1986 Daytona 500 champion Geoff Bodine, 19-year-old owner/driver Marc Davis, 2009 ASA Midwest Tour Champion Steve Carlson, 2009 ASA Northwest Tour Champion Gary Lewis, rising female drivers Tiff Daniels and Toni McCray and many more. A 24-car field is expected to start the event.
