
Toni McCray was sixth in the 24-car field after Saturday’s qualifying session for the ASA Transcontinental Free State 500 at Phakisa Freeway site. McCray, one of the two female competitors among the 18 U.S. drivers on hand for the event, is excited about her prospects for the race.

“Our team is working real hard to find that last little bit of speed to get us up front, but we’re very happy with our 6th place qualifying effort,” McCray said. “All of the drivers and teams are helping each other and the people here are great. Former NASCAR Sprint Cup star Geoff Bodine, of Chemung, N.Y., will be on the pole for the race alongside Marc Davis, 19, of Silver Springs, Md. The race has been dedicated to Davis’s father, Harry, who passed away unexpectedly last week.
