Steven Lane, Crew Chief No. 34 Window World Cares Ford Fusion for driver John Andretti:
“I love it. You know why? It adds another element to the race that you may be able to catch some guys on. NASCAR has adjusted a lot of rules over the years and maybe, just maybe, you can get some of these guys who haven’t thought about extending their fuel mileage. You’re going to have to think about this on your last pit stop- think about another possible seven to 10 gree laps that can happen at the end of the race. That’s a lot of laps right now. Guys are trying so hard to extend mileage, I think last season we saw three or four races won with guys extending fuel, but now you really have to be prepared. Three attempt is a lot of laps.”
Peter Sospenzo, Crew Chief No. 37 ExtenZe Racing Ford Fusion for driver Travis Kvapil:
“It’s a big part of your strategy now. I’ve told my engineers and fuel guys to think about this for Sunday already. We are prepared for the 150’s, but let’s think about 500 miles at a 2.5-mile track. That means a lot of pavement we need to be prepared to run green if the caution comes out late. Tracks like Daytona, Talladega, Pocono, Michigan, road courses, it’s really going to make a big difference. You need to be ready for it. But, I think it’s good for the sport. You’d rather see guys win races on the track racing than cruising behind a pace car.”
