Mike Duncan's absence at the Pontiac Wide Track Grand Prix 200 at California Speedway left a hole in both the starting line-up and the pits. The MB Duncan Motorsports Team, who qualified in the 16th position, packed up and went home after a disappointing day on Thursday.
According to Duncan things started out bad and just seemed to get worse. "The first time out on the track for practice I made a 1/2 lap and noticed rear end problems. I came in and we took care of that. When I went back out we lost a motor and I hadn't even completed a whole lap. We got a new motor put in, and I went out to qualify without any practice time. On the first lap I was able to qualify 16th, but on lap two I lost a second motor."
After experiencing a similar problem the week before during a Late Model race at Mesa Marin, the MB Duncan Team made the decision the cut their losses and head home.
Missing this race has certainly taken a toll on the team's standings in the Winston West Series, and competing in the full schedule is now being questioned. According to Duncan, "At this point I don't know how many of the races we will make it to from here on out unless we get a sponsor."
