LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Las Vegas Motor Speedway, hosting the Las Vegas Super Sprint Classic, had the Mopar USAC National and Western Midget Series, Brad Sweet of Grass Valley, CA, driving the #49 Kasey Kahne Racing midget, in a green, white, checkered shoot out with Chad Boat of Phoenix, AZ, driving the #30 Billy Boat Motorsports midget, using all their talent to cross the finish line in front. It was Sweet, when he successfully made his last ditch effort to get around Boat, that nailed down the victory of this thirty lap action filled race, on the half mile dirt oval in Nevada

"I wanted this win. Kasey's (Kahne) here and they gave me a great car and really good tires. At the end, I had to really stay on it. "Brad Sweet

Boat had raced into the lead on the seventh lap and had a great run through the twenty-eighth lap. Two midgets spun out, on the twenty-eighth lap. with Brad Kuhn (IN) at one end of the track and Dennis Carrier, Jr. at the other end of the track.

Boat had a good lead and it really looked like he had the win. But the caution changed everything. The field of midgets were now regrouped and any edge that Boat had was lost.

Sweet had led the first six laps and that final caution gave Sweet the chance he needed to reel in those last two laps. What a great run by both Sweet and Boat.

"I'll tell you what, he (Boat) got around me (at the start). But then (at the end) when he (Boat) came out of two (second turn) and he was tight, I was able to get around him (Boat). I wanted this win. Kasey's (Kahne) here and they gave me a great car and really good tires. At the end, I had to really stay on it. My hat's off to him (Boat)." said a very excited Sweet.

Boat follow Sweet across the line for second with Brad Loyet of Sunset Hills, MO racing the #05 Loyet Motorsports midget to round out the top three drivers in this event.

Kuhn, running the #17B RW Motorsports midget, scored the fastest lap in qualifying with a 20.547 second lap.

This was a very fast paced race without cautions and the leaders ran into lap traffic about half way through the race.

Darren Hagen (CA) started in third and collected a fourth at the end. Fifth went to Tracy Hines (IN), followed by Levi Jones (IL), Mike Hess (IL), Dave Darland (IN), Cory Kruseman (CA), Bobby East (IN), Jason Lefler (CA), Bryan Clauson (IN), Jerry Coons, Jr., (AZ), Alex Shutte (CA), Shannon McQueen (CA), Henry Clarke (CA), David Prickett (CA), Austin Mero (CA), Kuhn, Carrier and Zach Daum.

During qualifying races, in the midget second heat race, Alex Bowman, racing out of the third turn, went into a hard multi-roll, ending at the wall going into the fourth turn. The ambulance was called and Bowman was transferred to University Medical Center (stated by USAC). It appeared to be a very serious accident, but there wasn't any information given out. Prayers go out to Alex Bowman and his family.
