CRAPO GIVES LEIGHTON MOTORSPORTS FIRST NATIONAL WIN
Crapo Gives Leighton Motorsports First National Win

BOISE, Idaho — Colby Crapo of St. Anthony, Idaho has competed in the shadow of his namesake for the past couple of season but Saturday night he emerged from the shadows to claim his first ISOC AMSOIL Championship Snocross Series national victory in front of a capacity crowd at the Hayward (WI) 300 Nationals. The win was also the first for Leighton Motorsports based in Eagle, Idaho and is the only team from the western United States to compete on the national tour.

Crapo, who is in his second full season competing in ISOC for Leighton Motorsports came into the Hayward event with three consecutive podium finishes, but had yet to win a national event. Expectations have been high for the Polaris factory sponsored team and driver, but racing luck or lack thereof had snatched victory from their grasps up to this point.

In the Semi-Pro Super Stock #1 two preliminary races, Crapo scored finishes of second and first setting him up as the number one qualifier and lane choice for the main event. Crapo was fourth into the first turn but managed to gain a position each lap and by the fourth of 18 laps he was in the lead and never looked back.

“It has been a long time coming,” Crapo said. “I can’t thank Trace and Wendy Leighton enough for giving me the opportunity to ride top notch equipment for a great team. Polaris is an awesome company who make the best snow machines on the market and it is an honor to ride for them. I owe a lot to our crew chief Kyle Zarimba who has worked really hard to put in this position. Man this feels great.”

Crapo backed up his win with a strong 4th place performance on Sunday afternoon in Semi-Pro Super Stock #2 action. Crapo now sits third in the championship standings heading into the final event in two weeks at Lake Geneva, WI. “While the championship is a bit out of reach, we can still finish second,” Crapo said. “We just plan on trying to win another race and the rest will take care of itself.”

Crapo’s teammate Trevor Leighton of Eagle, ID maintained third place in the ISOC Junior 16/17 national point standings with a seventh place performance in Saturday evening. Leighton also competed in the Sport Super Stock class were he finished tenth after working his way into the main event from the last chance qualifiers race.

Leighton Motorsports is a factory sponsored Polaris Racing team with additional support from Fly Racing, C&A Pro Skis, Powermadd, Fox Racing Shox, HMK Snomobiling.Com, WPS, ROX, Woody’s, 139 Designs, 509, TekVest, Crapo Trucking, BMC Select, McAlvain, Boise Cold Storage Company, Carl’s Cycle Sales, Ashley Heating & Air Conditioning, Starting Line Products, and DJS Sports Marketing.
