The American Legion Post 684 will present their second annual Cool On April Fools Car Show April 3d, 9am to 5pm, in the parking lot of the post located at 641 West Inyokern Road in Ridgecrest-California. According to show director Dale Hilliard this event is open to all 1975 or older cars and trucks, street rods and customs. Proceeds from the event will benefit the American Legion's many programs including the area of veteran's services.

Hilliard plans on presenting special trophies in 20 different categories for the car show topped by the coveted best of show award as well as trophies for the best coupe, roadster, convertible, sedan and truck. Other award categories include best engineered vehicle, best interior and best paint job. There's even a special long distance award.

The really great aspect to the American Legion car show, as well as others like it, is the fact it launches a wonderful trip down memory lane. Spectators will be taken back to the days of yesteryear when muscle cars, with exotic paint jobs, ruled the highways and bi ways of America. Throughout the day classic car patrons will be overheard saying "our family had a car just like this when I was a youngster."

Hilliard agrees with that sentiment and said "you hear that sort of thing all of the time. This is the fun part about putting on one of these shows. People come and look at this vehicles and say I had one of these in high school or we had a 1951 Chevy when we first got married. It's getting to where, as time goes on from the last 35 years, people come to these classic car shows and right away their minds flash back to the 1950's and 1960's."

Show patrons will also find that these classic vehicle owners are very open and friendly. They love answering questions about their cars and sharing stories about them. Dale Hilliard would know a lot about this. He will have his "Orange Peel", a bright orange 1929 Ford Roadster, on display.

The total success of last year's first ever show was inspiring and that made Hilliard and the American Legion to want to do it again this year. "People told us they really liked the show last year," Hilliard said adding "the participants told me they really liked the fact that our show was so laid back, friendly and the multiple trophy categories."

Registration fees for the Cool On April Fools Car Show is set at $30, prior to the show, and $35 on the morning of the show. The show is free of charge to spectators.

The American Legion Post 684 Auxiliary Chapter will be on hand that day selling food. Commemorative T Shirts will also be sold. The atmosphere will be accented by 1950's and 1960's DJ music provided by Lone Mavrick Productions.

The American Legion would like to send a sincere thank you to its show sponsors: Madison Avenue Salon, The News Review, Texas Cattle Co., Beltone Hearing Aid Center, T&T Alignment, KSSI I-Rock 102.7 FM, SA-Tech WSL Division NAWS, Theresa's Ridgecrest Auto Body Inc, Benchwork Transmission, Cram-McCall Machine Shop, Casey's Restaurant, KP Productions, Rods West, Modern Trophy, DeAnne St Orange, John Taylor, Dorie Hilliard, Kathy Hope Massage and Mike and Lisa Cordoza.
