The Madera and Chowchilla Speedways will offer some great thrills and spills this weekend with the season openers at each of the two blazing fast Central California race tracks.
Madera Speedway will kick off the Central California fun this Saturday night with the Smokey Hanoian Classic. The night features five different classes of race cars headlined by the new LunkerDaddy Late Model Series. The Lunker Daddy Late Models are a new class that is designed to have the cars run at the same speeds producing very close competition for the fans and allowing the drivers to display their talent in equally matched race cars.
The kick off event for the Madera Speedway is a tribute night to one of the greatest personalities the racing world had ever known, Smokey Hanoian. Smokey is a big reason the racing was so good for so many years at the Madera Speedway.
“Smokey was a person that commanded a lot of respect, he did such a great job at running the competition side of the race track, in fact much of what we are doing this year is modeled off of Smokey’s procedures from the past in terms of competition and race operations. One of my favorite races I ever won was the 1993 Smokey Hanoian Classic and I almost used the trophy from that race for the winning trophy this year, but I value that trophy to much to give it up so the winner will get a 2010 version of it” Kenny Shepherd.
The under card Saturday night includes the Mini Super Toyotas, Toyota Sedans, Hobby Stocks and the crazy 4-Bangers. Gates open early in the afternoon for the fans that want to watch practice, and racing starts at 6:00PM. New lower ticket prices save the fans three dollars on the admission price, fans will now enjoy an adult ticket at the new reduced rate of $12.00.
Sunday the action will move to the super fast clay track in Chowchilla and the ground pounding Western Modifieds will headline the show with their sideways brand of dirt track racing. The $1,000 to win and $100 to start format will bring out the top modified drivers from all over California. The under card for the Sunday afternoon show includes the Super Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Sport Mods, Sportsman, and the Wild 4-Bangers.
