NASCAR’S Whelen All-American Series national Rookie of the Year, Jacob Gomes, was presented with another honor as Motor Sports Press Association 2009 Stock
Car Driver of the Year.
“When I saw the names of some of the past winners like Jim Pettit and Dave Byrd, I realized what a great honor this award is. It was pretty cool,” said Gomes.
The 16-year-old Gomes will be pulling double duty in 2010 by competing in NASCAR’S Late Model and Super Late Model series on tracks in Central California and at Irwindale, while also racing his first full schedule in the Spears SRL Series.
