BOISE, Idaho — Dave Minegar of Boise, Idaho is the most successful competitor in the history of the CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series. He has started more series' races and holds nearly every statistical record, but success behind the wheel is not what drives the two-time series champion as he prepares for his seventh season in the premier stock car racing series in the region.
"I love racing but being with my son and watching him grow is even better. It is all about balance and I am focused on getting back to the track and contending for a championship again this season."— Dave Minegar
This season is something of a new beginning for the 30-year old who cut his racing teeth at the local Meridian (ID) Speedway. For the first time in his young racing career, he sat out most of last season after a devastating crash at Meridian totaled his Bodybuilding.com Chevrolet. The wreck turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Minegar as and his wife Heidi welcomed their first child last August. The time away from the track gave Minegar to opportunity to devote his full attention to his son Ethan.
After nine months out of the car, Minegar is ready to get on track. "I never knew how much I missed being out there," Minegar said. "The time away really gave me a whole new perspective. I love racing but being with my son and watching him grow is even better. It is all about balance and I am focused on getting back to the track and contending for a championship again this season."
When he left the series last year his was leading the point standings and would have loved to battle John Dillon (eventual champion) and Jeff Jefferson for the title. "I would have loved being out there racing John and Jeff and the rest of the guys," Minegar said. "You want to beat the best and those guys are the best. But this is a series deep in talent and this year is going to be as tough as any. Zan (Sharp, two-time series champion) and Brett Thompson (who is joining the series this season after a long run in NASCAR's K&N Pro Series) bring their "A" game every race plus all the new guys coming in is going to make for one heck of a season."
This year's RMCS schedule will visit four very different race tracks but all tracks that Minegar has tasted success on. "I love them all," Minegar said of the series' racetracks. "They are all unique but a lot of fun to drive. This series is about being fast and coming from the back and that makes it exciting for the fans and makes you a better driver."
Minegar welcomes back BodyBuilding.com for the ninth year of their partnership. "The folks at BodyBuilding.com have been great to work with and I could not race without them," Minegar continued. "We should have all the same associates back with us. This is going to be a great year for our sponsors, team, and the series."
The racing action gets underway Saturday, April 24 at Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls, Idaho for round one of the ten race championship.
Minegar racing is sponsored by BodyBuilding.com, Redline, Ultimate Nutrition, Supreme Nutrition, Muscletech, SciFit, Gaspari Nutrition, A-1 Heating and Air Conditioning, and Dillon Auto Craft.
