CORBIN, Kentucky — 17 year-old Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle rookie Josh Brock put together a fine drive in the K&N Filters Modified to come home fourth on Saturday night at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif.
Brock earned a spot on the Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle driver development program over more than 700 applicants during the Driver Shootout last fall. Brock came to RSWC after finishing second in the points, and winning several races, in the prestigious Ken-Ten Late Model Series that races on asphalt tracks throughout the Midwest and Southeast.
Twenty NASCAR Grand American Modifieds crowded the pits for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series-sanctioned season opener at the one-third mile asphalt oval outside of Sacramento, Calif.
Brock ran just outside the top-ten through both practice sessions and qualified 10th fast in time trials. After a solid sixth place run in his ten lap heat race, Brock set his sights on the 40 lap feature.
With a large opening night crowd on hand, Brock started the Main outside of the fifth row. Navigating traffic precisely, Brock picked through the field quickly. Brock had raced his way into the top-five by lap 16 and moved into fourth on the next lap.
Brock fought off a strong challenge from veteran Mikey Lehman over the final dozen laps. They traded the position at the start finish line three times before Brock prevailed to take a well-deserved fourth place finish, behind NorCal stars Jason Philpot, Scott Winters and Michael Ostrowski.
“To come out in his first Modified race, against a field like this, and get a fourth place finish is truly incredible,” said Ron Sutton, Driver Coach. “Josh is quickly becoming a driver to watch this season.”
The finish gives Brock a tremendous start to his rookie and championship campaign at the competitive Northern California venue. He will return to action again on April 10.
