EUREKA, California — 15 year stockcar veteran Joe McDonald has announced his plans to race in both the Airport Auto Brokers Late Model Series and with the Sportsman division at Redwood Acres Raceway.
The 30 year-old McDonald drives the #09 Humbolt County McDonalds Chevrolet. In his last start at Redwood Acres Raceway back in the September “Fall Spectacular” McDonald ran in the top-three throughout the 100 lap feature and ultimately finished second.
That run has McDonald optimistic for a strong season at the historic speedway.
“I definitely think we can win races this year and compete for the championship, although I don’t plan at this time to run every race,” McDonald said.
He has run at various tracks throughout his racing career, including two treks up to Douglas County Speedway in Roseberg, Oregon and the open shows at Lakeport Speedway, Shasta Raceway Park, and Ukiah Speedway.
McDonald’s most ambitious plans for 2010 are to run double duty on the Airport Auto Brokers Late Model Series appearances at Redwood Acres. McDonald will race in both the Sportsman and Late Model features on May 22 and July 31 on the super fast four-tenths of a mile in the North State.
The Airport Auto Brokers Late Model Series has quickly established itself as one of the top racing series in the western United States and is promoted by racer Mike Doss.
McDonald will begin his season in the Sportsman division on Saturday night April 24 at Redwood Acres Raceway.
Joe McDonald Motorsports is sponsored by the following Humbolt County businesses: Humboldt County McDonalds, Leon’s Car Care Center, Furniture Design Center, Henderson Center Bicycles, and Virginia Bass for 4th District Supervisor Eureka.
