TWIN FALLS, Idaho — Jonathon Gomez, driver of the Heritage Cattle Co./Century Boatland Chevrolet from Twin Falls, Idaho is ready to challenge the tight and tricky confines of Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino, CA in the running of the SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series Citizens Business Bank "135" Saturday night.
"The SRL has a lot of really good drivers and we would like to prove we have a team to compete"— Jonathon Gomez
Gomez is coming off a top ten performance in the first SRL event of the season three weeks ago at All American Speedway. And while All American is a short track bullring, Orange Show will provide a unique challenge. "I have never seen the place but I am looking forward to racing there," Gomez said. "Just about everywhere we go its new so just need to focus on setups and qualifying."
Orange Show Speedway was originally a high school sports stadium that started hosting racing events in 1947. The track was eventually paved in 1964 and has been the site of marquee events over the years. In 2003, the racing surface was given a facelift with new asphalt and banking added in the corners.
"The SRL has a lot of really good drivers and we would like to prove we have a team to compete," Gomez continued. "I am privileged to drive for a championship winning team and I have a championship winning crew chief in Craig Raudman. Craig and I work well together and I have a lot of confidence in him and the team."
The circuit at Orange Show will challenge even to most savvy veteran and Gomez knows that in order to come out on top Saturday night he will need to start up front. "Qualifying is critical no matter where you go," Gomez offered. "With a tight 'one-groove' track it is imperative we start up front. I would love nothing more than to set fast time and win my first SRL race this weekend."
Jonathon Gomez is in his fourth year of competitive racing having won local track titles at Magic Valley Speedway in Twin Falls and competed in various Late Model events the past couple of seasons. He currently competes in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series and SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour where he will contend for both series championships. He will also make select starts in the CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series.
Jonathon Gomez is sponsored by Heritage Cattle Company, Century Boatland, J&C Custom Harvesting, United Oil, Modern Machinery, DJ Safety, and Gomez Farms. His last NASCAR race at Phoenix Int'l Raceway where he scored a fourth place finish will be broadcast on SPEED Channel on Thursday, April 22 at 3 PM PT.
