MONROE, Washington — On Saturday night April 24th Tom Moriarity of Monroe, WA kept his perfect season alive, winning the Super Late Model main for the second time in as many races at Evergreen Speedway in the NASCAR Whelan All American Series. Joselyn LaFleur of Monroe, WA won the NASCAR Stinger 8 main. The NASCAR Super Figure 8 main event win went to Jake Repin from Monroe, WA. Joe Kneeland of Bothell, WA won the NASCAR Whelan All American Series Feature Division main. Jim Puntenney from Monroe, WA won the B-main in the Hornet class.

Moriarity came all the way from the back of the pack to win his second main in the young 2010 season. Taking the lead from Daniel Moore (Snohomish, WA) on lap 19 of the time shortened 25-lap main on the speedway’s 3/8-mile paved oval. On the double file lap-19 restart, Moriarity started outside front row. By the time they were in turn-2 Moriarity had the lead and immediately pulled away from the rest of the group. Jeff Knight (Monroe, WA) finished 3rd with a banged up race car.

The Stinger 8 winner LaFleur led the entire 20-lap main. By being in the lead LaFleur was able to avoid the carnage that happened behind her as the field raced to the checkered flag. A major 5 car pileup at the X coming to the checkers changed the whole complexion of the finish, except for the leader. Lance O’Grain (Monroe, WA) survived to finish 2nd. Steve Peters (Monroe, WA) finished a close 3rd.

Repin took the lead of the 25-lap Super Figure 8 main on lap 14 from his 8th starting position. Once Repin took the lead he was never challenged as he cruised to the win. Last year’s champion of this division John Carlson (Snohomish, WA) settled for 2nd while early race leader Dale Larson (Everett) finished 3rd.

The rain moved in just as the Street Stock 25-lap main started. Kneeland was able to master the field and the wet track. Kneeland got the lead after a late race restart and slipped and slid his way to his first win in 2010. Second place went to Jim Foti (Edmonds, WA) and third went to Frank Cowgill (Shoreline, WA).

The Hornet 10-lap B-Main winner Puntenney waited until lap 7 to take the lead and garnered his first victory in 2010. Jim Tautfest (Stanwood, WA) finished 2nd and Jesse Schoneman (Everett) 3rd.

The Hornet A-Main was cancelled due to curfew restrictions and will be made up at a later date.

Next Up at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, WA is the May 1 Cinco de Mayo Night at the Races. The exciting night of action will feature Mini-Van Soccer, 4-cylinder Demolition Derby, Renegade V-8’s, School Bus Races, Roll-Over Contest, Boat Races and a death defying ‘Flaming Piñata Car Jump’.
