CHINO HILLS, Calif. – Flashy rookie NASCAR Winston West Series driver Tim Woods III heads for his first road race of the season when he and the other drivers in the Series compete at Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif. May 20. Woods has a successful record as a road racer. He finished fourth in the Featherlite Southwest Series Los Angeles Street Race in 2000. The tight 8/10-mile street course in Los Angeles will make the twisting 2.2-mile, 11-turn track near the California coast seem positively spacious.
The 26-year-old Woods drives the T-III Motorsports Chino Hills Ford Ford. The team is on a roll after competing in the Food-4-Less 250 at Irwindale Speedway. Woods qualified third, equaling his career best NWWS start. He stayed in the top 10 through most of the race before a pair of spin outs dropped him to a 12th-place finish.
Six races into the 2001 season, Woods is tied with Ross Thompson for third in the NWWS Rookie of the Year standings and is 16th in the championship standings with 679 points.
One of the young chargers in the Winston West Series, Woods is contracted to drive for the Jack Roush organization in 2002.
