MONROE, Washington — It was Ladies Night at the Races on Saturday May 8th with Ladies admitted for a reduced rate and each receiving a carnation courtesy of ‘Flowers By Karen’ of Monroe, WA. John Zaretzke a former Super Late Model Champion was able to make it to victory stage after a few years off from racing in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Super Late Model Main. The Street Stock division winner was defending champion Lane Sundholm after getting his old car rebuilt and to the track just after practice. John Roberts won the Foster Press Mini-Stock main. The two figure eight divisions were in action with Jake Repin winning his second in a row in the Supers and defending champion Mike Middleton the Stinger main. The popular Hornet division had two mains to accommodate the large number of cars. The B-main was won by Nicole Pollard and the A-Main by Jaime Corbett.
Zaretzke made his return a memorable one by winning the 40-lap main. His day started off on the wrong path but ended successfully. Zaretzke received a black flag in the heat race for Super Late Models and had to go to the back after a stop and go penalty for contact with another car. Starting at the back of the start of the main Zaretzke grabbed the lead on lap 25 from Andy Sole. The last lap of the main was interesting as the two point leaders Tom Moriarity and Jeff Knight got tangled as they raced for second place with both spinning and a black flag issued to Moriarity. Second in the main went to Sole and Daniel Moore third.
In the 25-lap street stock main, winner Sundholm was able to get the lead by lap 6. There were a few moments during restarts that Sundholm may have lost the lead but was excellent on all the starts. Darrell Lutovsky was second while Brian Cottrell survived for a third place finish.
The Foster Press Mini-Stock main had four cars battling the entire 25-lap event for the lead with Roberts hanging on for the win. Defending division champion Kris Harris finished second ahead of Scott LaCross.
Repin made a pass for the lead in the Super Figure 8 main by passing Steve Peters on the final lap. Ryan Gunderson finished third.
Stinger 8 defending champion Middleton has had problems with a new car this season but sorted things out for his first win in the 2010 season. Rob Dykstra was second while point leader Steve Peters finished third.
