A WIN FOR THE KID! MATT SCOTT WINS AT ALL AMERICAN SPEEDWAY

ROSEVILLE, California — No. 35 Late Model driver Matt Scott was elated to be back in the Winner's Circle Saturday night at All American Speedway, winning the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Championship race number five. Scott always puts on a good show and is usually in the top five, but his results sometimes don't show how good he is. Tonight everybody knew he was the best.

Scott qualified fifth, and with an invert of nine, started from fifth. No. 20 Bobby Grewohl had fast qualifying time with a 13.881 lap. At the green flag, No. 31 Justin Henry took the lead with No. 17 Jonathan Mawhinney in second. Scott, who was running very low tire pressure had sparks flying out from underneath his car. He was in fourth battling it out with No. 51 Chris Scribner who was third. Scott passed Scribner for third on lap eight.

Meanwhile, Henry kept the lead with Mawhinney right behind him. Scott then worked his way up to second and was running on Mawhinney's rear bumper. A caution flew when the No. 61 of Shannon Mansch got in to the No. 44 of Ron Chunn coming out of turn two.

On the restart, Scott and Henry were still battling it out for first. On lap 14 Scott took the lead, then Scribner and No. 12 Tim Smith made contact sending Scribner to the rear.

On the restart on lap 21, Scott and Mawhinney were racing side-by-side for the lead with Mawhinney beating Scott to the line by a nose. Mawhinney got sideways on the restart and Scott took the lead. He maintained his lead and went on to take the checkered flag.

"It was an amazing race, Scott said. "My crew, they re-did the whole car between qualifying and the main. I really don't understand how it all came together. The car was just wicked fast."

Scott said he probably could have gotten 10% more out of the car. "I think we have something for the No. 05 (Eric Schmidt) car when he comes back. It was Scott's first win since the Open Show in 2009. He is leading in Late Model points.

No. 24 Scott Winters raced spectacularly in Modified racing, grabbing his third win of the season. The No. 24 car seems unbeatable almost every week.

"It's the team that puts these parts and pieces together that make this car real fast," Winters said. "It handled great and we were able to just be patient. I didn't like all the caution flags towards the end of the race, especially once we got out front, I didn't want any more cautions, but we still had a few. We had some good restarts with the No. 57 car of Wes Miller. He's really tough. There was a pack of four of us who were just racing side-by-side lap after lap." Those four cars were Winters, Miller, No. 15 Jason Philpot and No. 50 Gary Glenn.

Winters is leading the Modified points standings, 11 points over second place Philpot.

In Bomber racing, rookie No. 52 Matt Camp took the win in a field of 16 cars. No. 23 Eric Bocksberger had the pole with a qualifying lap of 16.007. With the nine car invert, No. 9 Harry Lambert started from the pole with No. 24 Cody Rickard on the outside of row one. Camp started fourth and took the lead on lap four.

On lap 16, No. 3 Jim McGinnis took the lead, but surrendered it back to Camp on the next lap. On lap 18, No. 77 Erick Ray who started 10th, was up to second, but Camp had a great lead.

Then Camp and Ray started racing side-by-side putting on an exciting show for the fans. No. 37 David Thompson ran a good race finishing in third. Camp, Ray, Thompson, McGinnis and Bocksberger were the top five.

"I just tried to keep the car straight. I had some competition behind me as I was going for my first win in my rookie year. It was fun, it was a blast the whole way."

Camp went on to thank his many sponsors and his parents and said he wouldn't be able to race without all their help. "That's the only reason we are able to be out here having fun."

No. 21 Kevin Owens gave his mom Jan one of the best Mother's Day gifts she could get by winning in Street Stocks.

"I did what I could to give my mom her Mother's Day present. It was nice, I wish there was a little more side-by-side racing going on, but it looked like me and (No. 14) Wayne Crossland got out in front pretty good and that was it." Owns took the lead on lap five and never looked back.

It was a full field in Street Stocks with 22 cars racing. Crossland, No. 8 Matt Cockrum, No. 08 Mickey Owens, and No. 71 Randy Owens (driven by Jason Poppert) rounded out the top five.

In NCMA Sprint Car racing No. 3 David Goodwill of Napa qualified on the pole. With a seven car field, it was a full invert with Goodwill starting from the back, and No. 77 David Burchett starting on the pole. Goodwill worked his way to the front and went on to take the checkered flag. No. 76 Ed Amador was second, No. 19 Jimmy Riddell came in third, No. 93 Thomas Leiby was fourth, and No. 17 Rob Hammond was fifth.

"It was good race," said Goodwill. "We had a great night. The car was working for us."

Next Saturday, May 15, All American Speedway will feature Open Wheel racing with the Open Wheel Challenge, featuring USAC Sprint Cars, Legends and Ford Focus Midgets. For more information go to: www.allamericanspeedway.com.
