MONROE, Washington — This Saturday night at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington one of the premier figure eight events of the year is scheduled. It is called the 60-minites of FEAR. One hour of challenging the busiest intersection in the Northwest on race nights. The Super Figure Eight cars will challenge the tight but fast figure eight racing surface for one hour. It’s mayhem at its best. In addition the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Super Late Models and Street Stocks are both on the Big Track for the second time this season. The Big Track is a large 5/8-mile paved oval. The small, but quick Stinger 8’s are also on the docket.
Last year’s winner of the 16th annual 60-minutes of FEAR was Greg Scott. Scott won in 2005 and again in 2009. A win this year would put Scott into elite territory as the only racer to win three titles. Only Steve Cox has won more with four titles. Last season’s Super Figure Eight champion John Carlson has also won the 60-minutes of FEAR twice. This big event not only brings out the current divisional racers but many of the past racers.
The Super Late Models are back on the Big Track this week. Last week Tom Moriarity won the 75-lap main and maintained his slim points lead over Jeff Knight who finished third. Defending speedway champion Naima Lang pressured Moriarity during the waning laps and had to settle for an uncommon second. Lang has had the ownership of the Big Track for the last two years until last week.
Lane Sundholm defending Street Stock champion won the 40-lap main on the Big Track last week. Sundholm will be racing for three wins in a row with a win two weeks ago on the 3/8-mile oval. Jill Lang finished a close second at her first race of the season last week. Also back will be third place finisher Frank Cowgill. The point’s battle has really heated up in this division with the top eight within 31-points. Current leader is Jim Foti by just 9-points.
The popular Stinger 8 division returns to action after a week off. Current point leader Steve Peters will be vying for a win to cushion his lead over former division champion Mike Middleton. Seth Funden the defending champion is third in the point’s battle for the coveted 2010 title.
All the action gets underway at 7pm. Front Gates will open at 5pm. For tickets and or race information call the speedway office at 360-805-6100.
