DIETZ WINS 60 MINUTES OF FEAR

MONROE, Washington — Ricky Dietz won his third Super Figure Eight 60-Minutes of FEAR in spectacular style by lapping the entire field. The race went for 150-laps during the 60-minutes. The special figure eight night of racing included the Stinger 8 division and Steve Peters the point leader won cushioning his lead. The NASCAR Whelen All American Series Street Stocks and Super Late Models were on the ‘Big Track’ with Lane Sundholm winning for the second time on the 5/8-mile paved oval in his Street Stock and Naima Lang was back in winning form in his Super Late Model.

Dietz was on the pole for the start of the premier figure eight race and never lost that lead in the 60-minutes. Dietz who won the inaugural race in 1994 and again in 2007 is now the only driver to win three titles. Only Steve Cox has one better with four wins. Last year’s winner Greg Scott exited early after contact at the X sent him to pit road for good. Attrition took its toll during this race with over half the field having to leave early. Jake Repin finished second one lap down while Seth Funden finished third three laps down.

The Street Stock 30-lap main on the big 5/8-mile was dominated again by Sundholm. Backing up last week’s win on the big track Sundholm held off all challengers including Jill Lang who once again had to settle for a second place finish. Third place went to Frank Cowgill.

After having to finish a disappointing and uncharacteristic second last week Lang was not to be denied this time with a solid run-away win on the Big Track. Last week’s winner and current point leader Tom Moriarity finished a distant fourth. Second place went to Jeff Knight. Knight fought with Lang for 8-laps side by side but used up his tires in the process. Third place goes to visitor Zach Niesner.

Stinger 8 Division point leader Peters had an easy time with his win. Lance O’Grain was no match for Peters and settled for second ahead of Mike Middleton.

Next up at Evergreen Speedway is Memorial Day Weekend. Two days of Monster Truck action on Saturday May 29 and Sunday May 30. On Sunday night besides the trucks there will be the annual Demo Derby / Fireworks show which will include Stunts, Bus Races (both nights) and a staple of other smashing crashing action. Both nights will get underway at 7pm.
