JEROME, Idaho — Brett Thompson of Twin Falls, ID will only compete in a handful of NASCAR K&N Pro Series races this season and the event at Iowa Speedway this past weekend was one that he had looked forward to all winter. After the race weekend was completed, Thompson had little to show for his effort despite having a car capable of winning.

Thompson qualified 30th on the grid of 44-cars after cutting a right-front tire during his first qualifying lap. The setback would mean he would have to use patience and let the race come to him.
At the drop of the green flag for the 200-lap race, Thompson quickly began to make up positions on the field and moved inside the top twenty by the first pit stop. The team decided to take on right side tires and noticed that the track-bar bracket on the rearend house was bent (likely caused during his qualifying lap) and the team took extra time to repair the issue. Thompson lost a lap to the field in the process.
While trying to make up his lap during the mid-point of the race, Thompson was in position to receive the "lucky dog" and get his lap back under the next caution but unfortunately a slower car made contact with his Chevrolet causing him to spin.
Thompson spent the rest of the race just riding and eventually settled for a 31st place finish. "It is no fun to race that hard and have little to show for it," Thompson said. "I guess on the bright side, we loaded the car on the trailer without any damage. The team deserved better than this but we will be ready for the next event."
Thompson and his Thompson Motorsports team will be in action this coming Monday (Memorial Day) at Rocky Mountain Raceways in SLC, UT in CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenger Series action where Thompson is currently second in the point standings after two consecutive third place performances. "My NASCAR program has not gone the way I thought it would this year but we are right on target in the RMCS," Thompson stated. "The race Monday is one that I really want to win."
Taylor Barton of Las Vegas, NV drives a team car to Thompson in the NKNPS and wil compete in only five races this season preserving his rookie status for next year. Barton finished 27th at Iowa overall and tenth among West series drivers. Barton is currently 7th in the point standings.
